Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Catholic Charities helps those who are struggling in central and southwest Iowa 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This work is only possible because of compassionate volunteers who give their time, talents, and hearts in service to others.

Whether you have a few hours to give or are looking for a deeper way to make an impact, there’s a place for you here. Join us in living out our mission to Empower Individuals and Strengthen Families.

Every hour of your time impacts someone’s life.

Become a Volunteer

While most of our direct client work is done by our trained staff, we have many other opportunities for volunteers to get involved and make a difference! There is something for everyone to do, from providing a home-cooked meal at the Emergency Family Shelter, to helping with yard work at the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program, to giving a couple of hours of your time to help feed those coming to the Food Pantry, and much more!

Volunteering at Catholic Charities has helped to grow my faith and recognize my brothers and sisters in all walks of life.

Flexible Volunteer Opportunities

One-time Catholic Charities Food Pantry Volunteer

Spend a morning or afternoon in our food pantry. Volunteer at the daily window, the monthly market, the Tom Leto Personals Closet, or the community garden (seasonal). Bring a group, invite a friend, or come solo. However you show up, you’ll make an impact.

Catholic Charities Emergency Family Shelter

Provide comfort and care by signing up to be a meal provider at the Catholic Charities Emergency Family Shelter. Select a date that works in your schedule to provide a meal of your choice for our shelter guests. A simple and meaningful way to make a difference.

Donation Drives

Turn generosity into action. By hosting a donation drive, you help provide essential items and meet the immediate needs of our neighbors.

I enjoy providing resources to those who need it.  It’s an added bonus to do this in a team-like atmosphere.
– Amy Hemphill, Catholic Charities Food Pantry Volunteer
