Another great year raising funds for Catholic Charities Emergency Family Shelter
Gas leak almost shut down the annual reception.
Numbers are still rolling in for the 2018 No Room at the Inn annual fundraiser to benefit homeless families. The new live auction and fund-a-need brought in over $7,000 via our favorite auctioneer and board member, Mike Curran. That, combined with the silent auction, earned over $11,000! Raffle earnings raised over $4,000 for the hand carved, one-of-a-kind nativity by Phil Kohler.
Mercy Medical Center continues to partner with us for No Room at the Inn as the event sponsor. Supporting sponsorship through Decorated Occaisions, Chritiani’s Catering, and Splash Seafood Bar & Grill allow us to have such a beautiful evening.
This event had several hard turns. Our friend and faithful volunteer, Pat McManus, passed away the week of the event. She and her dear friend Nancy Rice collected items for the No Room auction for the last four years. We are truly grateful for all they have done for Catholic Charities and will miss Pat’s enthusiasm and joy.
As we worked through our loss, another major setback occurred. On Thursday, the day before the party, the Pastoral Center was evacuated due to a gas leak at the construction site next door. Crews worked overnight and into the next day to repair the leak. Staff and volunteers were allowed back in at 1:30 pm, after hours of deliberations over canceling or moving the event. Luckily we were able to stay in the Pastoral Center!
Overall, it was a wonderful evening connecting with old friends and new supporters. Many thanks to all who contributed and attended. Your support will allow us to empower and strengthen homeless families in Des Moines!
